Day after day,
student watches
the sun rise and set;
asks the master:

“How long has the Sun
turned round the Earth?”

Hears reply:
“Not yet.” [...]
Is the eye the gate of sight,
through which all light flows
and is not barred from entering,
though itself cannot be witnessed?

Is awareness like that sight? [...]
If you ask questions to find silence,
you’ve failed.
If you say anything at all,
this is not helpful.
What you seek is exactly as far from you
as your seeking.
When you’ve abandoned all words, that. And a favorite verse by Rumi: This silence, this moment, every moment,
if it’s genuinely inside you,
brings what you need.
There’s nothing [...]
If life is a crucible
of the spirit,
pride should be taken,
not in that fortune
excluded you from suffering,
but that you learned from it –
or had the fortitude to survive. [...]
Looking at the self,
which at first appears to be
a constant entity moving through time,
you discover it’s more like
a standing wave form.

There is no “self” that persists.

You are actualized by the water,
ever flowing through.

What is there to “be” enlightened?
Nor does the Ocean ever cease
its surge and flow. [...]
So many drops, cast on the spray
each unique for just a moment
each alike for just a moment…

Yet there’s only the Ocean:
the Born and the Unborn:
with no difference between
but the one I think I see. [...]
